From consultation and material selection to design, crafting, and delivery — at MAKOTO, every step is walked together with you. From the first encounter with a fine tree, to the birth of a piece that stays long beside your life.
It begins with a conversation.
The life you imagine, the place it will stand, its use, your budget, your preferred timing — a vague image is more than enough to start. Even for a first commission, your contact person will sort things out one by one and guide the way toward form.
Every slab wears a different expression.
Species, grain, color, size, shape, and finish are all weighed against the use and the space. From the candidate timbers, we select the one slab that belongs in your room. Hollows and cracks, too, are that tree's own character — we will also propose ways to let the live edge and cracks speak.
Giving the wood its outline.
Based on the hearing and the chosen timber, we define size, shape, legs, and finish. Together with drawings or sketches, we present an estimate and a production schedule, refining the specification with you until it settles.
Never hurried — always certain.
Once you have reviewed the specification, price, and delivery time and are fully satisfied, production formally begins. While any hesitation remains, we keep talking. Beyond your conviction, the wood begins to move.
With the timber and design decided, each piece is made one at a time. The temple carpenter's joinery, the blacksmith's fittings, the calligrapher's signature, the poured resin — as the four crafts converge, a single tree takes on the form of a single piece of furniture.
We share the work in progress with photos and videos along the way — the hours of the workshop, brought to you.
Completion is where living begins.
After the final inspection, we deliver and install the piece at your chosen place. We will also share how to care for it, and what will keep it beautiful for years to come. Delivery is not an ending, but the beginning of time spent together.
